Trip to the lovely fjord, Geiranger

We're back at my parents' house, and enjoying life. Aina and Terje invited us to come with them to Geiranger, one of the most magnificent fjords in Norway, and not far from where we live. It was Roberts first trip there, and I was definitely very ready for a bit of sightseeing in the cold.

Aina posing on their car, while waiting in line for one of the ferrys. When you have a fjord to pass, you usually need to go by ferry.

We stopped at a lovely little crafts store in Sæbø

I bought some traditionally crafted mittens. And then we bought chocolate...

Terje posing on the ferry Goma.

Since it was such a lovely summers day, we sat outside the ferry restaurant, dipping the chocolate in Ainas coffee. She knows her audience, and brought a big thermos filled with coffee. This ferry took only about 15 min, but we finished altmost all the chocolate.

Our next stop was Lyngstølvatnet. It used to be a mountain dairy farm before a big rock slide came down and dammed up the river in 1908, and therefore the whole area.

You can still see the remains of the small buildings.

I found a lovely bluebell. They smell so fresh!

Our next stop was by a water with cows, and a bit of snow. The mountains in  this area are magnificent!

Our next ferry was an expencive turisty one, where you have a one hour guided tour to Geiranger, our final destination. It's always thrilling to see if we can fit, and many cars have to wait on shore. The next one departed in 1,5 hours.

We were among the lucky ones, and squeezed in!

The ferry was full of turists from almost everywhere, and some enjoyed the exciting gull feeding. The guiding was in several languages.

We ate the rest of the chocolate, and drank more coffee.

Hurtigruten, a Norwegian cruise ship, passed us. This is a big ship, and the mountains are even bigger...

I ate the traditional svele, and enjoyed the company and scenery. Robert had one of these on every ferry we were on. Svele is traditional Norwegian sweet food, and nowdays we usually just eat in on the ferrys.

Some tiny waterfalls.

Up there is a farm! They used to tie their children to something solid, so they wouldn't run off the cliffs.

And we're in Geiranger. Many international cruise ships come here every day througout the summer, but we were lucky, and there was none this Saturday! But the troll was there.
The Moods of Norway store was in the middle of town. Gots to love this idea! Check out their homepage by clicking on the name!
Oh yeah... the tractor is their most famous symbol.

Then we stumbled over something even more interesting...

Who can resist buying chocolate souveniers?

Locally made chocolate, in the factory in the basement.

Aina went for the straberry filled chocolate, and one filled with the traditional norwegian brown cheese. So good!

We also bought some ice cream for dessert. The best licorice ice cream I have ever tasted!  We ate dinner at the restaurant behined me here, and kept stearing at the chocolate place throughout dinner.

Then time for coffee! Terje found an old Donald Duck magazine, and was happy.

I was completely overwhelmed by everything, and wasn't even able to think ...

Ended up with some home made candy

And a lovely coffee!

Aina was pretty happy at this stage. One the wall behined her is written: "fall in love with your eyes closed". We did.

Next step, high on sugar, was up to one of the view points.

A german couple was trying to take some nice pictures, with him all the way down there on the edge. Aina and Terje waited a little while before joining him.

The Nowegian turist assosiation has installed lovely toilets along some of the turist routs.

Lots of love
Such wonderful people!

A very enjoyable day

We saw lots of lovely waterfalls, this being next to a nice hotell in Geiranger.

Then, almost homeward bound, after a long day. The trip took us about 10 hours, and some of us were pretty tired in the car on the way back. Some even fell asleap...
